Eisenhower Hall renovation ramps up CARL has moved to temp space.

Eisenhower Hall and the Combined Arms Research Library are undergoing a $35 million renovation that will shut down the buildings and nearby parking lot for more than a year.
The project will result in more than 40 upgraded classrooms for the School for Command Preparation, the Battle Command Staff Integration Course, and the Command and Control-Digital Master Gunner Course, as well as an upgraded DePuy Auditorium. The library renovations will move the children’s library to the first floor and provide a quieter study area on the second floor. The information desk will be renovated and both floors will get new carpets and furniture.
“It will be a better quality library, not only for CGSC, but for the entire installation,” said Chris Ibanez, engineering technician (facility design) for the Command and General Staff College.

Ed Burgess, director of the library, said the children’s books, fiction, new release books and reserved books for CGSC and School of Advanced Military Studies electives will make up the bulk of what is immediately available at the on-post library during the transition.“All services that we currently offer, we’ll continue to offer, including community services like children’s story time,” Burgess said.

Much of the library’s collection of more than 300,000 books will be stored elsewhere, so students conducting research may need to plan 24 hours in advance for a requested item. Delivery trucks will run each weekday from the off-site storage facility to the on-post temporary library, Burgess said. There will also be a few general-use computers available.

The entire project is scheduled to be completed by the spring of 2013, weather permitting.
