New Children Titles Now Available

One of the newest additions to CARL for Young Adults is “Spendors and Glooms”  by Laura Amy Schlitz.  It is a 2013 Newbery Award Honor Book.   It contains a mesmerizing plot that involves hungry orphans, a magician who propels the storyline and a sweet little rich girl named Clara.   The book is a Victorian gothic novel that contains many surprises and of course, there are the puppets on the front cover, who “dance” on many levels.  Recommended!

The newest book by children’s picture artist and author, Kevin Henkes, is “Penny and Her Marble.”  Dear Penny sees a shiny marble in a neighbor’s yard and just has to have it, she tells herself.  However, once she takes it, is it really hers?  Read the story and learn what Penny herself concludes about her action and behavior.

“ Z is for Moose”, yes, that is the  correct title by Kelly Bingham and Paul O. Zelinsky.  This charming alphabet has Zebra directing the other animals to their correct letter, but something goes amuck.  The kids will laugh out loud when they see the animals, especially moose, trying to find his correct page.  And, they will probably try to help Moose out---and ask you to read it over and over.  Lots of fun and giggles with this one.
All three titles are available in the children’s room at CARL.
