LD&E Daily Announcements is a CGSC sponsored email span whose purpose is to notify the CGSC/ILE students of key events and information occurring within our military community and the college. Recently in our LD&E Daily Announcements, Student Edition of 17 August 2010, a mention was made about the online “Military Review” being available in Portuguese, Spanish and Arabic; and quite frankly, I was astonished and abhorred. I can certainly understand the need or desire of a purely academic institution wanting to publish material touting its exploits and achievements, but we are not a “pure” academic institution. We are a Department of Defense entity specializing in the education and broadening of our senior military members and very select few of our military and government agency partners. While publishing academic material in foreign languages may seem like a good idea, publishing assessments of our military capabilities and weaknesses in foreign languages is NOT a good idea. The CGSC website even states that the “Military Review” is a journal that provides a forum for original thought and debate on the art and science of land warfare and other issues of current interest to the US Army and the Department of Defense. So let’s violate the tenant of good OPSEC and make it easier for our enemies and those who wish to destroy our way of life to assess us and our capabilities? Why, for some overzealous idea of political correctness gone awry? Let’s let our enemies spend their time, effort and money translating the articles. And correct me if I am wrong, but aren’t we also expecting a budget reduction soon? Surely there are other things to spend our tax dollars on. STOP the OVER POLITICAL CORRECTNESS and the WASTE, but most importantly REMEMBER OPSEC!
